Basic Concealed Carry Course - State Permit

This is the basic state approved class required for application for a concealed carry permit. Even if you don’t want to carry concealed,  it is a great class for anyone who owns a firearm,  has a firearm in the home, or is interested in the legal, tactical, and ethical realities of self-defense.  Our course covers more than the state mandated training curriculum with an emphasis on safety, the legal use of force, and the realities of a life or death encounter.  Because we believe we have a greater obligation to the public when teaching life and death skills, we provide extensive, but important extra-information and training.

We guide our students through the necessary steps to familiarize them with the use of a handgun for self-defense, requiring only a minimal amount of physical activity. For example, we had a 65-year old grandmother and an individual with an arm in a sling pass our basic CCW training. The shooting is based on a set of simple skills used in close-range, threat-focused conditions that a permit holder may likely encounter.

Course Information:

  • Approximately 10-hours of instruction
  • Required instruction in handgun safety, nomenclature, shooting fundamentals, concealed carry techniques, confrontation avoidance and de-escalation, legal use of force, familiarization with state laws and procedures, and live-fire qualification
  • Introductory classes in combat mindset and stress, tactical realities and survival strategies, drawing from concealment and its tactical applications, and use of cover and corners
  • Requires 150 rounds of ammunition on range day only. You will most likely not need it, but we prefer you bring enough to practice and qualify up to three times.
  • Cost is $150.00  *** (If you cancel for any reason we will re-schedule you for another class to the best of our ability. If you choose not to reschedule, we will refund 50% of the price of course) ***
  • Class times can be tailored for groups of 8 or more
  • Please contact us if you desire additional information

If you have significant shooting experience we encourage you to try our techniques which are reality-based instead of being range or target shooting-based. However, we will not force our techniques on any student as long as the student's techniques are safe. A good instructor knows that they will always learn from their students and we look forward to sharing our information with you.

To prepare before class: Try to do some of the following before class. Reviewing your eligibility is the only thing that is required, the rest will help you better prepare for class.

  1. Familiarize yourself with your gun by reading the owner and instruction manual and practice basic firearm familiarization on a range if possible.
  2. Make sure your gun works with the ammunition you have purchased.
  3. Make sure your holster works well with your weapon.
  4. Review all the available material on the state patrol website at – http://www.nsp.state.ne.us/FindFile.asp?ID 87 to include the rules and regulations and FAQ’s.
  5. Make sure you are eligible for a permit by reviewing the rules and regulations under (Section 005 Permit Eligibility). You will be required to sign a liability waiver and statement stating you are eligible to obtain a permit.
  6. Review some of the city, state, and federal law concerning use of force and firearms at:

Arriving for Class: Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class so instructors can start the administrative process. Class will start promptly on time.

Location: Classroom training sessions are conducted at the Signal 88 Security Office at 3880 South 149th Street, Suite 108 (149th & 'F' Street area) Omaha, and the Range Training is conducted on an outside private range just inside of Washington County a few miles north from Bennington. Directions will be given at the end of classroom instruction.

Class Length: The classroom and practice training lasts approximately 6-hours and the range segment is approximately 4-hours.

We will provide pens and notebooks as needed. If you are unsure about holster types or other equipment, please let us know and we will do our best to assist you.

What to bring to the Range Training:

  • The handgun you plan to carry concealed if possible. You must bring your own handgun. Bring a weapon appropriate for range drills with a line of other students. Very small pocket guns, derringers, etc., cause safety concerns and your should advise us before you attend class to see if we can develop some reasonable alternatives for you. You are not legally required to qualify with the handgun you will carry, but it is highly suggested that you qualify and train with the handgun you will carry. You are responsible for the proper condition and function of the handgun. At least one spare magazine for semi-automatics, and at least one Speedloader or speed strip for a revolver (optional). Two or more are recommended.

  • An appropriate holster for concealed carry. For safety we prefer strong side hip holsters, but we will train you in the method appropriate for your type of concealed carry. If you plan on carrying in an ankle holster, we strongly advise you to consider another primary means and require you to bring at least  one other type of holster. We also lean away from shoulder holsters for group training for safety reasons, but if you do bring a shoulder holster, we prefer that the holster holds the gun in a muzzle down position. Contact us if you have any questions about the type of holster to bring.

  • 150 rounds of ammunition. We do not allow hand loaded ammunition and highly discourage factory reloaded ammunition unless you have tested it with your gun. Make sure the ammo is appropriate for your guy and will function safely and reliably.

  • Eye and ear protection and a brimmed hat.

  • Shoes and clothing appropriate for outdoor range training. Make sure it is suitable for concealed carry. We suggest both a jacket or open type cover shirt, and a pullover/sweater type of shirt. You will be most comfortable with a light tee shirt underneath. Wear comfortable shoes with good traction

  • Your Nebraska Driver’s License or identification card

Food/Meals: You are welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks. If you are attending a longer session, you will get a short lunch break and you can make use of the available restaurants in the area or bring your own lunch. There will only be very brief breaks during class.

If you do not have any of the above items, contact us before the class to make arrangements. We will provide pens, notepads, and course materials.

NO LIVE FIREARMS or AMMUNITION ALLOWED DURING CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION

ALL GUNS SHOULD BE UNLOADED AND IN A CASE. DO NOT BRING ANY AMMUNITION TO THE NON-RANGE TRAINING.
